Lostwithiel
An old stannary town on the River Fowey that was once the medieval capital of Cornwall, where smelted tin was brought to be weighed, stamped and taxed. The town is built on a medieval grid, with a fourteenth-century bridge, the surviving range of the Duchy Palace, and the spired St Bartholomew’s Church. Lostwithiel has a reputation as Cornwall’s antiques capital and runs a monthly antique fair at the Community Centre on the second Sunday of each month. The small museum covers the town’s Civil War history, and the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery is three minutes out of town.
