This Privacy Notice explains how Bring the Dogs collects, uses and protects your personal data when you use this site.
Bring the Dogs is operated by Joanna Booty, trading as a sole trader. The data controller is Joanna Booty. You can contact us at hello@bringthedogs.co.uk for anything privacy-related.
What we collect
We collect personal data in three ways.
Information you give us directly. When you sign up to our newsletter, we ask for your name and email address. When you submit a review of a venue, we ask for your name, email and your review content. When you email us, you share whatever you choose to put in the email.
Information we collect automatically. When you visit the site, our web server and Wordfence security plugin log basic technical information about your visit: your IP address, browser type, the pages you view, the time of the visit and the referring page. This information is collected to keep the site secure and to help us understand how the site is being used.
Information from analytics and cookies. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are popular and how readers find the site. Google Analytics receives an anonymised version of your IP address along with information about your visit. We only run Google Analytics if you accept analytics cookies via our cookie banner. See our Cookie Notice for the full list of cookies set by the site and the third parties we use.
Why we collect it (lawful basis under UK GDPR)
- Newsletter sign-ups: lawful basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) UK GDPR), given when you tick the sign-up box. You can withdraw consent at any time via the unsubscribe link in every email.
- Reviews you submit: lawful basis is your consent, given when you submit the review form.
- Contact emails: lawful basis is our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)) in being able to reply to you.
- Postcode lookup for distance search: when you type a postcode into our “find places near you” search, we send that postcode to postcodes.io to convert it into latitude and longitude. We don’t store your postcode after the lookup. Lawful basis is our legitimate interest in providing the service.
- Server log data and Wordfence security data: lawful basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and operational.
- Google Analytics: lawful basis is your consent, given via the cookie banner.
- Affiliate link clicks: lawful basis is our legitimate interest in tracking referrals. We don’t share personal data about you with the affiliate network; the network sets its own cookie when you click through. See our Affiliate Disclosure for the programmes we use.
How long we keep it
We keep your personal data only as long as we reasonably need it for the purposes set out above, or as required by law. Newsletter subscribers stay on the list until they unsubscribe. Reviews stay on the site for as long as the venue does, unless you ask us to remove yours. We delete contact emails when the matter they relate to is resolved. Server and security logs are kept short-term for spam and intrusion protection.
You can ask us to delete your data at any time using the contact details below.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data, ever. We share it only with the following third parties, and only as needed for the site to work.
- MailerLite runs our newsletter. Your name and email sit on their servers. MailerLite is GDPR-compliant and stores data within the EU. MailerLite privacy policy.
- Hostinger is our web host. They process all data the site receives, including server logs. They process data within the EU.
- Google Drive (via UpdraftPlus) holds off-site backups of the site. Backups include the database and uploaded files. Google’s privacy policy applies to data stored in Drive.
- Google Analytics processes anonymised IP addresses and visit data to give us aggregated traffic reports. Only runs with your consent via the cookie banner. Google’s privacy policy.
- Wordfence runs as our security plugin. It processes IP addresses and limited request data to block malicious traffic. Wordfence may share IP threat data with their central threat database. Wordfence privacy policy.
- CookieYes stores your cookie consent preferences. CookieYes privacy policy.
- postcodes.io receives postcodes you enter into the distance-search box. It’s a free UK postcode lookup service run by Ideal Postcodes. We don’t send any other data with the lookup. postcodes.io.
- Affiliate networks (Amazon Associates, Awin, Booking.com Partner, Pawfit) set their own cookies and receive a referral identifier when you click an affiliate link. We don’t pass them any personal data about you ourselves.
We do not transfer data outside the UK or EU except where the third party has equivalent data-protection arrangements (for example, Google’s Standard Contractual Clauses for backup storage).
