Padstow and the Camel Estuary

A north-coast harbour town on the west bank of the Camel estuary, with a working fishing fleet, medieval streets and a strong food scene led by Rick Stein and Paul Ainsworth. The Black Tor passenger ferry runs across to Rock (around ten minutes), where Daymer Bay and a long sandy beach pick up. The Camel Trail starts at the harbour and follows an old railway line for 5.5 traffic-free miles to Wadebridge, with bike hire available in town. Prideaux Place, an Elizabethan house above the town, has a 3,500-acre deer park you can walk.
