Whitsand Bay and Rame Head
A wide, sandy bay backed by tall cliffs, with several separate beaches that link up at low tide. The sand stretches for around four miles, and at very low spring tides it is possible to walk the bay from Portwrinkle round to Polhawn. Access to the beaches is by steep cliff steps, so the walk down is the easy part. Above the bay, Rame Head rises to a small medieval chapel with sweeping views to Plymouth Sound and back across the bay. Tregantle Fort is a military firing range, so check firing times before walking the road past it.
