Forest Holidays Deerpark

Important dog policy note: Only selected cabins are pet-friendly. Book direct with Forest Holidays to check availability for a specific stay.

Forest Holidays Deerpark sits in Forestry England woodland about ten minutes from Liskeard, on the south-eastern edge of Bodmin Moor. We stayed for a week and it was a fabulous base for a Cornwall holiday.

The cabins are dotted through mature forest, so the walks start right at your door. Ours had a private hot tub on the deck, a log burner inside, and beautiful views across the woodland. The setting is peaceful and quiet. After a long day out, coming back to a glass of fizz in the hot tub while the ladies snoozed was the perfect way to end the day.

It is genuinely dog-friendly, which matters when you travel with four. Up to four dogs are welcome in the dog-friendly cabins, which need to be booked specifically, so make sure you choose one of those when you book. There is plenty of space and the forest walks from the cabin are excellent – though after rain the ladies came back with very wet, muddy undercarriages, so the drying coats earned their keep all week. There isn’t an enclosed garden as such, but each cabin has an enclosed deck or balcony.

The Forest Retreat is where you check in, and it serves food and drinks, and has a shop with gifts and practical items (food, toiletries etc). They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and there is also has a dog menu (Sir Woofchester’s). There is seating inside and outside, with a play area next to the outside seating.

The location is what really made it work. We did days out all over Cornwall from here – Heligan, Caerhays, Golitha Falls, the Eden Project, Lanhydrock, Restormel, the Cornish Seal Sanctuary and Trebah right out west – and Deerpark sat within reach of all of it. Liskeard is ten minutes away for anything you need.

We had a fabulous holiday despite some genuinely terrible weather. The cabin, the hot tub, the peaceful setting and the views, and how dog-friendly the whole place is, all made it somewhere we would happily go back to.

Practical notes: bring your own dog bedding and water bowl for the cabin. The dog-friendly cabins are limited and book up, so reserve early and confirm you have a pet-friendly one. Book direct with Forest Holidays to check availability.
