Looe town and Hannafore Beach
Hannafore sits on the West Looe side of the river, a long rock-and-shingle beach with sandy patches at low tide and views across to Looe Island. The shallow rock pools draw families looking for crabs, prawns and starfish, and the Looe Marine Conservation Group runs rockpool rambles through the year. A sea wall path makes the front easy to walk, and the South West Coast Path picks up at the western end for the cliff walk to Polperro. Plaidy Beach and Kilminorth Woods are both a short walk away.
A note from a wet 2026 visit: we stopped in Looe for a cup of tea after a change of plan and intended to walk round to Hannafore Beach, which is dog-friendly. The heavens opened before we got there and we got thoroughly soaked, so we cut our losses and headed back. The walk round to Hannafore is lovely in good weather – just keep an eye on the forecast, as there is not much shelter along the seafront.
