Falmouth
A south-coast harbour town on one of the world’s deepest natural harbours, with a long maritime history and a strong creative scene built around its university. The streets are full of independent shops, galleries and delis. Pendennis Castle, built by Henry VIII to guard the river mouth, stands on the headland above the town and was used through Tudor times, the Civil War siege of 1646 and both World Wars. Falmouth is also a starting point for boat trips up the Fal to Truro and Trelissick, or across to St Mawes.
