Cotehele

Cotehele Valley Garden in spring with woodland and stream
Important dog policy note: Dogs welcome on leads on the estate. Four named garden areas are dog-free: Mother Orchard, Old Orchard, Cut Flower Garden and Valley Garden.

A late-medieval and Tudor manor on a wooded bend of the River Tamar, the ancestral home of the Edgcumbe family from the 14th century. The house holds one of the best collections of 17th-century tapestries in the country. The grounds drop down through formal terraces and a medieval dovecote to Cotehele Quay, where the restored 1899 Tamar sailing barge Shamrock is moored, alongside a small Discovery Centre on the river’s working past. A working watermill sits in the wooded valley about twenty minutes’ walk from the house. The wider estate paths are free to walk; the house, gardens and mill are National Trust admission.
