Polperro
A small fishing harbour on the south Cornish coast, with whitewashed cottages, twisting lanes and working fishing boats still tied up at the quay. Cars are banned in the narrow streets, so you explore on foot. The Polperro Heritage Museum of Smuggling and Fishing sits above the harbour and tells the story of the village’s pilchard-fishing and smuggling past. The South West Coast Path from Looe to Polperro is around five and a half miles each way along the cliffs, and a bus runs between the two for the return.
A practical note from a 2026 visit: the harbour-area parking we could find was payable by coins only – they did not take cards, and we had no cash on us, so we ended up driving on without stopping. I would suggest taking coins with you or checking parking payment options ahead if you are arriving without cash.
