Swanage Pier

Swanage Pier is a beautifully restored Victorian pleasure pier of 1896 on the seafront, run by a charitable trust. There is a small strolling toll, £2.30 an adult with accompanied children free, which goes towards its upkeep, and dogs are welcome on a lead for a gentle stroll out over the water.

Each board on the pier has a plaque to commemorate an occasion or remember a loved one

If you have time and are feeling adventurous, there are activities available such as diving, water sports, fishing and boat trips. The boat trips are dog friendly, but we didn’t have time to try one – maybe next time!

The 1859 cafe, gift shop and heritage trail are all here, and the pier is a well-known sheltered spot for divers and anglers. We wandered out along the boards and back, then stopped nearby for a cup of tea, looking back across the bay.
