Corfe Castle

Corfe Castle is a dramatic, thousand-year-old royal castle ruin standing high above its village in the Purbeck Hills, begun by William the Conqueror and famously slighted by Parliament after a Civil War siege. Well-behaved dogs on short leads are welcome throughout the ruins all year round. The climb up is short but steep, and well worth it for the views and the history.
The 18th-century National Trust tea-room is dog-friendly, with a garden and close-up views of the castle, perfect for a coffee before or after. Entry is free for National Trust members; in 2026, non-member admission is around £15 an adult off-peak and £16 at peak (children roughly half, under-5s free). Open daily 10am to about 4.30pm, closed Christmas and Boxing Day. Corfe Castle station on the Swanage Railway is right in the village, so it pairs beautifully with the steam train.
