Swanage Railway - Bring the Dogs

The Swanage Railway is a heritage steam line running five and a half miles from Norden, through Corfe Castle and Harman’s Cross, down to Swanage. It is a wonderful, car-free way to reach Corfe Castle and the coast, and dogs travel free, complete with their own novelty ticket (ours came printed with WOOF, Fare £0.00, Number of good dogs: 1).

A Day Rover ticket, £27.50 per adult, lets you hop on and off all day. Tickets are card only. Park at the large Norden park-and-ride (Purbeck Park) and take the train in to Corfe Castle, avoiding the summer crush in Corfe village, and hop back on again to go all the way to Swanage. Don’t miss the free little Swanage Railway Museum in the old goods shed at Corfe Castle station, telling the story of the line and its rescue. Steam trains run daily from April to October and most weekends the rest of the year, but check the calendar as some days have no service.
